ADG Architects completes £1.5 million specialist warehouse for Darlington haulier

02 March 2016

North East Architects Practice ADG Architects has completed a new specialist £1.5 million warehouse for Darlington-based George Allinson Transport, one of the region’s best known haulage companies.

Paul Kelly, Partner at Darlington-based ADG Architects, designed and oversaw the construction of the new 53,800 sq ft high bay insulated warehouse with a further 16,800 sq ft of weather protected loading canopies.

The new facility will increase George Allinson Transport’s storage capacity by 25% at its 15 acre site at Darlington’s Faverdale Industrial Estate. The firm is installing narrow aisle racking to store up to 8,000 pallets and the latest pick and pack and tracking technology.

ADG Architects was appointed by George Allinson Transport to design the new facility following a recommendation by a construction company. This is one of a number of projects the architects practice has completed on Faverdale Industrial Estate.

David Allinson, Managing Director of George Allinson Transport Ltd said: “ADG Architects was able to come up with a suitable proposal plan on the layout and size of building we had in mind very quickly.

“They submitted the plans for planning permission and dealt with any questions and queries promptly that enabled work to commence on the new build within the expected time. Their response to any changes or additions during the construction has been met and handled very positively. Should we have any future building projects then a call to ADG Architects would be one of the first on our list.”

Mr Kelly said: “We are delighted to play our role in helping a major transport company stay ahead of the competition with a large specialist addition to its facilities.”

In the past 30 years ADG Architects industrial team, led by Paul Kelly, has designed and built more than 2.2 million square feet of industrial and commercial space for over 300 clients, including 3M, Darlington Borough Council, Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, Lyons Tetley, Magnet, Nissan, NSK Bearings, Subsea Innovation, Volvo Trucks and Warburtons.
